Crocodile Boat Tours in Jaco Beach

One of our favorite tours in Jaco Beach is the Crocodile Boat Tour. Last weekend we were invited by our friends that operate it at the Tarcoles River only 15 minutes away from our vacation rentals in Jaco.

The most impresive thing about this tour is the huge crocodiles that inhabit the river, some of them measuring up to 17 feet long! The funny thing is they have put them names, so we met some big crocs like Osama Big Laden, Tornado and other small guys like Justin Bieber.

One of the guys in the boat feeds them so it lets you see how big they are, we asked our guide if any accidents had happened and he says none, they know these animals since they are little kids, so they know their behavior and know how to get close to them. The crocodiles are also used to them so they swim close to the boat to get fed when they feel the boat approaching.
Look how big Tornado is! It was difficult to fit it in the picture.

It is also very nice to ride through the river and photograph lots of exotic birds, as well as the mangrove forest close to the river mouth which is full of crabs.

Beautiful posing for the picture with the Carara mountains in the back

Thank you Jose and Carolina for inviting us!

If you want to book this tour please contact us today and we will coordinate the pick up right in your vacation rental in Jaco.

Vacation Rentals in Jaco Costa Rica are Perfect for Whale Watching

Looking for a perfect place to get warm, relax on the beach, and even meet some Humpback whales this winter? How about a place that is easy on your budget, too? If this sounds like a fun winter trip, be sure to check out our amazing vacation rentals in Jaco, Costa Rica, where our great beach cabanas are so close to the harbor that you just might see whales breaching right from your patio. Bask in the warm tropical breezes while enjoying the upscale properties that put you in the thick of the action.

Whale watching season in Jaco begins in August, peaks in mid-October, and finishes up in December, making a very long season for viewing these gentle giants. Professionally trained tour guides can take you out on stable yet fast catamarans that respond quickly to whale sightings so you can be up close to the action in no time. All whale watching ship captains are trained in the proper approach techniques, so they do not harm or disturb the whales, but allow you to have unforgettable whale encounters nonetheless. Many times, the whales seem as curious about the boats as the passengers do about watching the whales!

Whale watch excursions from Jaco also educate their passengers about the humpback whales and the efforts to conserve their population. They explain how the whales come to the warm waters to breed and never eat until they return to cooler waters. You will also learn how researchers identify each whale by the distinctive markings on their flukes, or tails.

Whale watch boats are often equipped with glass bottoms or sides and underwater microphones so that you can listen to the whale’s songs. On the observation decks, you'll have excellent opportunities to film the whales breaching above the surface and blowing their water spouts. Quite often, dolphins swim along with the whale watching boats, much to the delight of the passengers.

Many towns in Costa Rica have festivals to celebrate the arrival of the whales, often covering two weekends to show their enthusiasm for these annual visitors. One of the favorite spots for watching whales is the Ballena National Marine Park, where an underwater dome coaxes the whales closer to the surface so that they are easily viewed from boats.

If this sounds like the whale watching experience you've been dreaming of, contact us today! We can set you up with a beautiful vacation rental in Jaco, Costa Rica so you are right there on the beach and ready to go whale watching.
